Upholding Professional Standards & Equal Opportunity in Housing
At the Southwestern Illinois Board of REALTORS®, our commitment to professionalism and integrity is grounded in two key pillars: the REALTOR® Code of Ethics and Fair Housing compliance. These foundational principles not only protect consumers and ensure fair treatment, but they also define what it means to be a REALTOR®. By adhering to the Code of Ethics and fulfilling Fair Housing requirements, our members demonstrate a dedication to ethical practice, equal opportunity, and public trust—core values that shape a stronger, more inclusive real estate community.
Code of Ethics Training Requirement
To maintain membership in the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), all REALTORS® are required to complete Code of Ethics training of no less than 2 hours and 30 minutes of instructional time during each training cycle. This training ensures that all members understand and uphold the ethical standards that define our profession.
The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by NAR. Members can fulfill this requirement in one of the following ways:
Taking an online course through NAR
Attending an in-person or virtual course offered by a local or state REALTOR® association
Failure to complete the required Code of Ethics training by the deadline may result in suspension of membership until the requirement is met.
