REALTORS® and Affiliate members are deeply connected to the communities they serve. Many volunteer, serve on local boards, participate in civic organizations, build relationships with community leaders, and stay closely connected to the issues and opportunities shaping their communities.
SIBR's Local Political Coordinator (LPC) Program brings those connections together to strengthen REALTOR® advocacy throughout our region. The program creates a network of engaged REALTOR® and Affiliate members who can help SIBR stay connected, informed, and involved at the local level.
The LPC Program is open year-round, and SIBR REALTOR® and Affiliate members can express interest in participating at any time.
What Is a Local Political Coordinator?
Local Political Coordinators are SIBR REALTOR® and Affiliate members who serve as an additional connection between the Association and the communities throughout SIBR's service area.
LPCs help SIBR stay informed about local conversations, emerging issues, and opportunities that could affect real estate, private property rights, housing, homeownership, local businesses, and the communities where our members live and work.
LPCs are not expected to be political experts. The program is designed to build on the relationships, community involvement, professional experience, and local knowledge members already have and use those connections to strengthen the REALTOR® voice.
What Do LPCs Do?
Local Political Coordinators may:
- Share updates about issues or conversations happening in their communities.
- Help identify local ordinances, proposals, or emerging issues that could impact housing, real estate, private property rights, or local communities.
- Attend local government or community meetings when appropriate.
- Help SIBR build and strengthen relationships with local elected officials and community leaders.
- Identify opportunities for SIBR and its members to become more involved in their communities.
- Participate in quarterly virtual LPC meetings to exchange information with SIBR staff and other LPCs.
- Receive advocacy updates, resources, and talking points from SIBR.
Who Should Get Involved?
Many REALTOR® and Affiliate members may already have the connections and community involvement that make them a great fit for the LPC Program.
SIBR is especially interested in connecting with members who are involved in areas such as:
- Municipal, county, or township government
- Business and economic development
- Public safety and emergency services
- Education and youth organizations
- Nonprofit and civic organizations
- Healthcare and human services
- Infrastructure and community development
- Faith-based and cultural organizations
- Chambers of commerce and local business groups
- Neighborhood and community organizations
An elected position or previous political experience is not required. The program is designed for members who are already engaged in their communities, have relationships with local leaders, or are interested in becoming more involved.
Why It Matters
SIBR serves a large and diverse geographic area, and many decisions affecting real estate, housing, development, private property rights, and the overall strength of our communities are made at the local level.
While SIBR's Government Affairs team works throughout the region, no single team can be present in every community or at every local meeting. The LPC Program expands SIBR's local reach by creating a network of REALTOR® and Affiliate members who understand their communities and can help identify issues, opportunities, and important conversations as they develop.
By connecting local knowledge with SIBR's advocacy efforts, the program helps strengthen relationships with community leaders and ensures the REALTOR® perspective is represented in conversations that can shape the future of our communities.
